Comparison
What it is
Kling AI
A text-and-image video generator. The product is the generation, not a full editor. Kling's site also describes a canvas and an agent for storyboards.
Runway
A video studio for generating shots and editing. The pricing page bills images, video, and audio in credits across several models, including Runway's own and Kling 4.0.
Best for
Kling AI
People comparing a generated shot and willing to use Kling's membership credits.
Runway
People who want one studio for generation and edit-adjacent work, and who may try more than one model.
Pricing model
Kling AI
Freemium. Kling's credit guide, dated 28 Jul 2026 and still on kling.ai on 1 Nov 2026, lists Basic at $0, Standard at $6.99 for the first month then $8.80 with 660 credits, Pro at $25.99 then $32.56 with 3,000 credits, Premier at $64.99 then $80.96 with 8,000, and Ultra at $127.99 then $159.99 with 26,000. It says the first-month price does not apply at renewal.
Runway
Freemium. On 1 Nov 2026 the pricing page showed Standard at $15 a month or $12 a month on the yearly table, Pro at $35 or $28, and Max at $95 or $76. Yearly credit pools were 7,500, 27,000, and 114,000 a year. The yearly table is marked 20% off.
Free tier
Kling AI
Yes. The credit guide lists Basic at $0, free forever, with no monthly credits, and says Basic output is not for commercial use.
Runway
Yes, as a one-time deposit. The FAQ says the Free plan includes 125 credits that do not expire. Paid plans add a monthly pool. Standard and Pro monthly credits do not roll over. Max can roll up to one month.
Platforms
Kling AI
Web product at kling.ai. The credit guide is about generation in that product. It does not list a desktop editor.
Runway
Web studio. The pricing page is on runwayml.com and describes credits spent in the product. It does not list a desktop app.
Key strengths
Kling AI
Paid plans in the guide add 1080p, watermark removal, video extension, and commercial use. The same guide says the 3.0 series can run 3 to 15 seconds, and lists native 4K at 30 credits a second.
Runway
Gen-4.5 is 60 credits per 5 seconds, which the FAQ also states as 12 credits a second. The table lists Kling 4.0 at 118 credits per 5 seconds, with 89 credits during a 25% discount until 30 Nov 2026.
Limitations
Kling AI
Basic has no monthly credit allotment and is not for commercial use. The membership page did not render a price table on 1 Nov 2026, so these dollar amounts are the credit guide's. That guide says plan rules can change. Spending Kling 4.0 inside Runway is a different bill.
Runway
You are buying Runway credits, not a Kling membership. Standard and Pro credits reset each cycle. Extra credits start at a 1,000-credit purchase and do not expire. Kling 4.0 on this table is one model among several.
Prices were checked against the sources below on Nov 1, 2026. They exclude tax unless a source says otherwise, and they change. Where a figure could not be pinned down, the cell says to check the site.
Pick one
Pick Kling AI ifyou want Kling's generator on Kling's own plans, and you have read whether Basic output can be used commercially.
Pick Runway ifyou want a studio budget that can go to Gen-4.5, images, or Kling 4.0 without a separate Kling membership.

Questions
- Is Kling included with Runway?
- Runway's pricing table on 1 Nov 2026 lists Kling 4.0 as a model you can spend Runway credits on, at 118 credits per 5 seconds, or 89 during a 25% discount until 30 Nov 2026. That is not a Kling membership. Kling's own plans are on Kling's credit guide.
- Does Kling have a free plan?
- The credit guide lists Basic at $0 and calls it free forever. It also says Basic has no monthly credits and that generated content on Basic is not for commercial use. Standard is the first paid row, at $6.99 for the first month and $8.80 after, with 660 credits.
- Does Runway have a free plan?
- The pricing FAQ says the Free plan includes a one-time deposit of 125 credits that does not expire. It is not a monthly allowance. Standard is $15 a month, or $12 a month on the yearly table, with 7,500 credits a year on that yearly plan.
- Which one is the fuller studio?
- Runway. It is first on the video shortlist as the fullest studio, and the pricing page covers video, image, and audio models. Kling is second on that shortlist as a motion comparison, and its own guide is about generation credits. This page does not change those places.
- Can I use Kling output commercially?
- On the credit guide, Basic says generated content is not for commercial use. Standard, Pro, Premier, and Ultra say generated content is for commercial use. Read that guide again before a client job, because it says the rules can change.
