What it does

Factory Droid is Factory's coding agent. The October 29, 2026 post introduces Droid 1.0 and calls it the largest update yet. Factory says the harness is model-independent, and that Factory Router can choose a mix of models. Programmatic tool calling is the default: the model writes a JavaScript Script that runs in a sandbox with no file, network, or system access of its own, and one program can run hundreds of tool calls in a single model request. Factory says Script mode cuts cost by 15% on Claude Opus 5.5 compared with direct tool calls. Droid 1.0 is a desktop app for macOS and Windows and a terminal UI. The Droid SDK, @factory/droid-sdk, runs the same harness and can hold multi-turn sessions, stream work, and take custom tools over MCP. On Terminal-Bench 4, Factory says that with GPT-6.1 Sol, Droid scores 3.5 points higher than Codex at 12% lower cost, and that with Claude Opus 5.5 it scores 3.0 to 7.6 points higher than Cursor, OpenCode, Devin, and Claude Code, at up to 24% lower cost. The pricing page lists Pro at $20 a month, including desktop, CLI, and SDK access. Plus is $100 a month and adds Factory-managed cloud computers. Max is $200 a month.
